The safeguarding process can be confusing and bewildering for children and families. In addition, information about their abuse and neglect has been discussed in a conference forum alongside details of their personal circumstances and desired outcomes. This can leave family members feeling vulnerable that their experiences have become everybody’s business. They may also feel angry and distressed by the content of the conference.
It is important to recognise and address any negative feelings and outcomes resulting from the process. If these feelings and concerns are not addressed the family may be reluctant to engage with services.
