Pointers for Practice: Effective Review Conference Practice
- The focus of the review should be on evaluating quality changes to the daily lived experience of the child/ren in the family and in light of these changes, or lack of them determining actions such as continuation of the plan.
- Specific evidence is necessary that parenting has improved and had a positive impact on the child/ren to warrant de-registration. This evidence should include the child’s experience as well as practitioner observation
- The core group should submit reports, that combined, provide a comprehensive overview of the work undertaken by the core group and its effectiveness
- Parents engagement with the plan should be assessed separately.
- Engagement of child/ren in the review process is essential. It is important to establish whether they believe the plan is having a positive impact on their lives.
- Members of the review should try and understand why parent/s may not have engaged with particular aspects of the plan and whether changes to the plan could promote engagement.
- The family should receive positive feedback for any engagement with the plan that has led to positive outcomes for the child.
- When considering progress, it is important to recognise the impact of staff workloads, sickness, lack of resources etc on the implementation of the plan.
- Celebrate success towards achieving the final child-focused outcomes.
