This section covers procedures relating to the roles and responsibilities of practitioners, if the adult at risk requires longer-term actions to protect them from abuse or neglect and/or an investigation process into the case has concluded.

The adult protection conference: the rationale and aims are outlined and the adult protection conference: roles and responsibilities specified including:

• lead co-ordinator
• chair
• attendance of practitioners
• practitioners undertaking investigations
• the adult protection conference: the process
• frequency of meetings
• preparing agency reports
• sharing reports with the adult at risk

• keeping a record of the adult protection conference.

The adult at risk should participate in the conference so guidance is provided on:

• participation by the adult at risk
• promoting participation at the conference
• managing engagement for the adult at risk who does not wish to attend the conference
• family members
• the person alleged to have caused abuse or neglect.

A key consideration for practitioners is information-sharing and guidance is provided on:

• confidentiality and the sharing of information at the conference
• practitioner requests to withhold confidential information
• circumstances when information should be disclosed.
